Science
The learner will understand the differences and characteristics of the four seasons on Earth and identify the ways that these seasons affect our region. The learner will create a Prezi to teach the class about these seasons.
1. What is the average temperature in Houston, TX in the month of August?
2. What months does summer take place in in the Northern Hemisphere? 3. What months does spring take place in in the Northern Hemisphere? 4. What months does winter take place in in the Northern Hemisphere? 5. What months does fall take place in in the Northern Hemisphere? 6. What activities do people enjoy in the summer months in our state? 7. What kinds of clothing are commonly worn in the winter months in our state? 8. What kinds of native plants grow in the spring months in our state? 9. What sports are played in the fall months in our state? 1. Students will watch a TEASe as their anticipatory set about the four seasons.
2. Students will learn about Winter and Spring in a science lesson and answers questions about those seasons. 3. Students will learn about Summer and Fall in a science lesson and answer questions about those seasons. 4. Students will be split into groups of 4 and each will be assigned a season that they will research based on the essential questions above and the Scavenger Hunt at the link. Students will be assessed on the completion of their seasons worksheets and on the information that they chose to include in their seasons presentations.
The entire second grade will attend a performance of Frog and Toad All Year at the Main Street Theater in Houston, Texas and then present their presentations to the entire 2nd grade once we get back to campus.

Language Arts
The learner will understand the steps to research different topics and will use technology as well as library skills to find information on the four seasons. The learner will also write complete sentences to describe their assigned season. The learner will also read the book Frog and Toad All Year and identify the seasons through the adventures of Frog and Toad.

2. What is the most important information that I find? 3. How does knowing about the four seasons help me understand our Earth? 4. What are the main parts of a sentence? 5. How do I write a complete sentence? 6. Is the information I chose important? 7. How do I limit my information to important things only? 8. How do I see the four seasons in Frog and Toad All Year? 1. Students will read chapters 1 and 2 of Frog and Toad All Year and identify characteristics of Winter and Spring on their seasons chart.
2. Students will read chapters 3 and 4 of Frog and Toad All Year and identify characteristics of Summer and Fall on their seasons chart. 3. Students will transfer their seasons characteristics into one 4 sentence paragraph about the characteristics of the 4 seasons with attention to capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and subject/verb agreement. 4. Students will go to the library to begin the research process on their assigned season. 5. Students will decide which 5 facts are the most important ones about their season and will create a prezi slide about their season including pictures and each fact. 6. Students will work with their group to complete a prezi about all 4 seasons that they will present to the class with pictures and proper grammar and mechanics obvious as well as research skills used. Students will be assessed on the content of their sentences and on the quality of their presentations. Students will also be graded on the seasons chart and paragraph they create to go along with Frog and Toad All Year.
